I pray for the prompt release of Abdullahs and Mehbooba Mufti: Rajnath Singh | India News

NEW DELHI: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said Saturday that he prays for the early release of three former prime ministers of Jammu and Kashmir and hopes they will help normalize the situation in Kashmir.

Dozens of politicians, including three former prime ministers, Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah of the National Conference (NC) and Mehbooba Mufti of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP), were placed under preventive detention shortly after the government repealed Article 370 and reorganized and forked. Jammu and Kashmir enter two Union territories on August 5 of last year.

Although most politicians have since been released, the three main ministers and a dozen politicians remain in detention. While Farooq Abdullah was booked under the strict Public Security Law (PSA) in September, Omar and Mehbooba were also recently arrested under the same law. The government cited its provocative statements and threats issued before the annulment of article 370 of the Indian constitution that granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

In an exclusive interview with IANS on Saturday, defense minister Rajnath Singh said: “Kashmir has been peaceful. The situation is rapidly improving. Along with the improvement, these decisions (the release of detention politicians) will also be finalized. The government has not tortured anyone. ”

In defense of the government’s decision, the defense minister said that certain measures had been taken in the interest of Kashmir. “Everyone should welcome him,” he said.

Singh said he will pray for Abdullahs and Mufti’s prompt release from his detention. “I also pray that once they are away, they work and contribute to improving the situation in Kashmir,” said the Union minister.

Rajnath Singh received praise in Kashmir while he was Minister of the Interior in the previous government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for his honesty and kindness.
