KOLKATA / SONBHADRA: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) said on Saturday that no gold deposits estimated at around 3,000 tons have been discovered in the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, a district mining official said.

“Such data was not provided by anyone from GSI … GSI has not estimated this type of great resource for gold deposits in Sonbhadra district,” GSI (DG) M Sridhar general manager told PTI in Kolkata tonight. .

“We share our findings regarding any mineral resource after conducting a survey with the state units … We (GSI, Northern Region) had done work in that region in 1998-99 and 1999-2000. The report was shared with UP DGM for information and other necessary actions, “he said.

The GSI’s exploration work for gold was unsatisfactory and the results were not encouraging to find great resources for gold in the Sonbhadra district, he added.

Mining Officer of Sonbhadra District K K Rai
+ He had said Friday that gold deposits were found in the Son Pahadi and Hardi areas of the district.

Deposits in Son Pahadi are estimated to be 2,943.26 tons, while in the Hardi block they are around 646.16 kilograms, the official said.

Rejecting the claim, Sridhar said that in his report after exploration in the district “the GSI has estimated a probable category resource of 52,806.25 tons of ore with 3.03 grams per ton of gold (average grade) for a strike length of 170m in Subblock-H, Son Pahadi of the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. ”

“The mineralized zone that has an average grade of 3.03 grams per ton of gold is of a tentative nature and the total gold that can be extracted from the total resource of 52,806.25 tons of ore is approximately 160 kg and not 3,350 tons as mentioned in the media , “the DG clarified.

The GSI is based in Kolkata.
