Rahul Gandhi remains the “main leader” in Congress, a large part always felt that he should return as chief: Salman Khurshid | India News

NEW DELHI: A large part of Congress has always felt that Rahul Gandhi must return as head of the party and remains the “main leader” in the party, senior leader Salman Khurshid said on Saturday, stating that Rahul Gandhi should not be pressed and allowed to make its decision.

In an interview with PTI, Khurshid also said that Congress was going through a “transition process”, but that there was no leadership crisis affecting the party since Sonia Gandhi was in charge.

His comments become important as they arise after voices from various sectors within the Congress emerged on the issue of leadership with many leaders, including Shashi Tharoor and Sandeep Dikshit, demanding that the matter be finally resolved.

Tharoor urged the Congressional Work Committee (CWC) on Thursday to hold leadership elections to “energize workers and inspire voters.”

When asked about the opinions of Dikshit and Tharoor, Khurshid said: “We have had elections in the past. We have also had people who say that elections are not necessarily the best. There are two points of view. When we get to that point, we will cross the bridge. ”

He said that talking about these issues in the media does not help Congress.

When asked if Rahul Gandhi was the most suitable to lead the Congress, Khurshid said: “We have all said this. Now it is written in stone, it is clear. But if we accept him as our leader, we will give him the choice of decision. and the moment. Why do we want to impose (our views) on him. ”

On whether there was a dominant opinion within Congress that Rahul Gandhi should return as head of the party after resigning last year assuming moral responsibility for the defeat of Lok Sabha’s polls, he said there has always been a feeling in a large part of the match

“But it was embarrassing to keep repeating it because if you think he is a leader, you should leave him some decisions, not impose time, not impose the nature of the decision, let him make a decision,” he added. said the former minister of the Union.

“He (Gandhi) said that he is not going to leave and that he is not gone. He is still here. If he does not have a label because he does not want to use that label today, we respect that and we have done it. Then,” Khurshid said, and added that it is the media that do not stop talking about it.

Khurshid said Rahul Gandhi is still the “main leader” in the game.

“He (Gandhi) is still the main leader … nobody else is the main leader. But there are other leaders who have their own importance, who contribute to the whole process that is the Congress party,” he said.

Khurshid said that the fact that the parties opposing Congress continue to attack him more than anyone, proves that he remains the main leader.

When asked if the Gandhi family remains the foothold of Congress, he said it is a fact that cannot be ruled out.

“No one says, much less the Gandhi family says, that democratic processes should not be allowed to evolve in the party. Democratic processes are evolving in the party. But the position they hold historically is the position that is recognized and accepted by a large number of congressional workers is a fact that cannot close their eyes, “he said.

This whole matter against dynasties is repeated by those who have benefited from dynasties. The BJP has benefited from the dynasties, he said.

“Tell me one of the parties that has no dynasties. I do not say that the dynasties are good, but the dynasties are a fact, not only in politics, but in the media, in the police, in the judiciary, in Bollywood, in the administration, in universities … You can’t point to a single area and say ‘there shouldn’t be dynasties here,’ “he said.

As social mobility progresses, this problem will resolve itself, he added.

When asked about the enigma of leadership, Khurshid said there was no lack of leadership in the party and said there could be no “cutting and drying” or instant solutions to the issues, since it takes time.

“There is no past leadership, present leadership and future leadership. There is a kind of continuum, now in that continuum what kind of form the leadership structure takes from time to time will evolve. This is an evolution that is taking place. people just feel uncomfortable with evolution, “he said.

Khurshid said that much of the discussion and debate on the issue of leadership was useless and it was the media that seemed to be more interested than the congressmen.

More importantly, what the party needs to understand is what has happened to the country and the voter that “we must address,” he said.

“Do we need to educate the voter, we need to follow the voter, we must follow the example of the voter, we need to redesign our policies, etc. These are the things that we should focus on – essentially the ideological content of our party,” Khurshid said.

“We should leave ourselves to allow ourselves to do what we have to do. Each of us knows what we have to do. But no matter what we do, we would still require a change of mood in the country and some are now being noticed and is manifesting, “said the 67-year-old leader.

Congress said Friday that there was no leadership crisis in the party, as Sonia Gandhi was named head of the CWC, the highest decision-making body of the great party.

Sonia Gandhi was appointed interim president of Congress in August last year after Rahul Gandhi resigned from taking on moral responsibility for the party’s Lok Sabha poll debacle.
