In additional sessions, Judge Dharmender Rana ordered the prison authorities to submit their response to Vinay Kumar Sharma’s request on Saturday.
According to prison officials, Sharma was injured by banging his head against the wall of his cell in Tihar prison.
The incident occurred in jail number 3 on Sunday afternoon, they said, adding that he suffered minor injuries and was treated inside the prison facilities.
During the hearing, the prosecution opposed the statement saying it was not maintainable.
Sharma’s lawyer told the court that he refused to recognize people, including his mother.
The statement alleged that when Sharma’s lawyer visited him in prison at the request of his family members, he discovered that he had suffered a serious head injury, fractured right arm with plaster and suffered from “madness”, “illness mental”. and “schizophrenia.”
Sharma could not identify his lawyer and his mother in jail, he said.
The petition further claimed that he had been “diminishing sleep” for a long time and was referred to a senior psychiatrist due to drug dependence.
On February 17, the court issued new death orders for March 3 at 6 in the morning against the four sentenced to death in the case of rape and group murder of Nirbhaya.
He had issued new orders against those sentenced to death: Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay (26) and Akshay Kumar (31).
This is the third time death orders are issued against them.
