A woman from the Kashmiri Pandit community collapsed and lashed out at director Vidhu Vinod Chopra after watching her movie ‘Shikara’ at a theater in Delhi, where she had come to get a first-hand public critique of the film on Friday.

The woman claimed that Chopra commercialized the entire issue of the Kashmiri Pandit exodus of the 1990s and did not portray the real suffering of the community, including genocide, mass rapes and mass murders committed by Islamic radical groups in her film.

“Ye aapka commercialism aapko mubarakh ho (Congratulations on your commercialism) Like Kashmiri Pandit, I don’t know your movie, I don’t know it,” said the viewer visibly distressed.

He also claimed that Chopra polarized the sufferings facing the community, to which Chopra replied that he will work on a sequel to the film for women.

In trying to calm the situation, the director also said that “the truth has two faces” and that people have different perspectives on the same issues.

“Ab aapke liye Sequel two banaengey (Now I will make a sequel to you),” Chopra replied in a lighter vein.

The period drama ‘Shikara’, which is a love story that revolves around the true event of the mass exodus of Kashmir pandits from the valley, was released across the country on Friday, February 7.
