Shaheen Bagh: EC raps DCP who said the shooter had AAP links, says there is no voting duty | Election of Delhi 2020 Election News

NEW DELHI: One day after the senior Delhi police officer Rajesh Deo informed the media about a recent incident of dismissal in Shaheen Bagh and suggested a conspiracy angle by stating that the shooter Kapil Baisla (aka Gurjar) and his father they had joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) a year ago, the Electoral Commission (EC) ordered the Delhi Police not to assign Deo any work or matter related to the ongoing Delhi polls.

The EC said the action followed after Deo, the police commissioner of the criminal branch, made public the details of an ongoing investigation that has political connotations. Shortly after Deo’s statements to the media, a war of words had broken out between BJP and AAP, with BJP accusing the latter of “abusing” young people for political and selfish reasons. AAP responded by saying it was “another example of BJP’s dirty policy.”

“The commission has considered the matter in detail and considers that the … statements that refer to a political party at this stage, even when the investigation is still ongoing, have the effect of negatively impacting the elections. This action was totally “The conduct on the part of Shri Rajesh Deo has consequences in the conduct of free and fair surveys,” the EC said in a letter to the Delhi police chief, Amulya Patnaik.

The electoral commission has ordered that a warning be issued to Deo communicating the commission’s dissatisfaction with his conduct and that a copy of it be placed in his confidential report (CR) file.

The commission has requested a report of compliance with its instructions before 6pm Thursday.
