Nine months before the deadline of Andheri-Dahisar Metro 7, the contractor was fired for late work | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Almost nine months before the deadline for Andheri-Dahisar Metro 7, the MMRDA has terminated the contract awarded to the main Simplex infrastructure for the construction of the Andheri-Goregaon part, citing extensive delays in the execution of the work .

Fears that the delay in the section would jeopardize the October deadline for the Metro 7 project began to be expressed approximately six months ago, when MMRDA sent the first of several notices to Simplex Infrastructures Ltd to speed up the work.

The Rs 6,208 crore Metro 7 project will connect the 16.5 km between Andheri (east) and Dahisar (east) with an elevated line that extends largely along the Western Express highway.

Simplex was completed to execute civil works in the 5.5 km stretch between Andheri and Goregaon in April 2016 for Rs 348 million rupees. Authorities said the work here had remained virtually stagnant at the 75% stage for a few months, when it should have already finished. “The MMRDA has terminated the contract and new tenders have been invited to designate a new contractor to complete the balance sheet work of Simplex Infrastructures Ltd,” said an MMRDA official.

The MMRDA has also collected the bank guarantee of Rs 35 million rupees granted by Simplex.
