India vs New Zealand 2nd T20I Highlights: KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja help India register 7-wicket win, take 2-0 lead | Cricket News
A solid bowling performance to go with a disciplined 50-ball 57* from KL Rahul helped India register a seven-wicket win over New Zealand in the second T20I in Auckland on Sunday. With the second consecutive win of the tour, India also gained a 2-0 lead in the 5-match series. Chasing a moderate 133-run target, India lost Rohit Sharma (8) and Virat Kohli (11) cheaply. But Rahul kept India’s chase on track. Alongwith in-form Shreyas Iyer (44), Rahul batted steadily taking India into a comfortable position. In the end, Shivam Dube (8*) helped India cross the finish line with 15 balls to spare. Earlier, riding on a strong bowling performance, India restricted New Zealand to 132/5. Opting to bat after winning the toss, the hosts got off to a good start but lost way after losing wickets in quick succession. For India, Ravindra Jadeja was excellent with the ball, finishing with figures of 4-0-18-2. Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube and Bumrah too chipped in with a wicket apiece.

A terrific effort from the bowlers helped India restrict New Zealand to 132 for five in the second T20I in Auckland. Opting to bat after winning the toss, the hosts got off to a good start with Martin Guptill and Colin Munro taking on the India bowlers inside the powerplay overs. But then wickets in quick succession derailed the Kiwi charge. Guptill was the first one to fall on the final ball of the powerplay overs for quickfire a 33 off 20 balls. Then wickets of Munro (26) and Colin de Grandhomme (3) in the span of six balls dented New Zealand innings. Skipper Kane Williamson too looked out of touch as he departed for 14. Towards the end, Ross Taylor (18 off 24) and Tim Seifert (33* off 26) tried to get some quick runs but looked hapless in front of death-over specialists Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. For India, Ravindra Jadeja was excellent with the ball, finishing with figures of 4-0-18-2. Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube and Bumrah too chipped in with a wicket apiece.

Virat Kohli: “Same thing, happy days (On both teams getting to do what they wanted). We had a brilliant chase the other night and we wanted to field first.. We were talking in the dug-out that had me and KL batted through, we would have won with two overs to spare. I think, it’s a gun wicket. We did well with the ball too in the last game. It suits better when we bowl first. We were happy with the performance, I don’t think there was any jet lag. We are going in with the same team. We want to do better in the field. We can stop extra 10 runs.”
Kane Williamson: “We are gonna have a bat. Obviously, it’s an used surface and there won’t be dew much. We wanna use the surface bat. It’s important that we execute our plans and put up a strong performance. We are playing the same team.”
