Nirmala Sitharaman: Next time invite finance minister to pre-budget meeting: Congress in jab in BJP News – India

NEW DELHI: Congress on Thursday struck Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her absence at a pre-budget meeting with economists and experts at the Niti Aayog, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Here’s a suggestion, the next budget meeting, to consider inviting the Finance Minister,” Congress said on its official Twitter identifier, using the hashtag “FindingNirmala.”

“How many men does it take to do a woman’s job, ” said the opposition party in another tweet, using the same hashtag.

Incidentally, while Nirmala Sitharaman was absent, Trade Minister Piyush Goyal, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar were present at the prime minister’s pre-budget meeting.

Congress labeled a tweet from the BJP that the Ministry of Finance has invited suggestions for the 2020-21 Union Budget.

“Citizens from all walks of life are welcome to be part of this exercise,” the tweet in BJP’s Twitter manidio said.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was not present when the Prime Minister met with economists, private equity and venture capitalists, business leaders and agriculture experts in Niti Aayog and called for focused efforts from all stakeholders to achieve the goal of nearly doubling the size of the Indian economy to $5 trillion by 2024.

BJP sources said Sitharaman was holding pre-budget meetings with party workers at the BJP headquarters at the time.
