Judge Loya’s death case: Maharashtra govt open to new investigation in Loya’s death case: Anil Deshmukh News – India

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government is open to reinvestigating the death of CBI Special Judge B H Loya in 2014, state Minister Anil Deshmukh said here on Thursday.

Loya, who was listening to the case of Gujarat’s fake encounter, a high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh, died of cardiac arrest in Nagpur on 1 December 2014, when he had gone to attend the wedding of a colleague’s daughter.

“Our government is open to reinvestigating the case of Loya’s death. Some people meet with me today to demand that the case be reopened. I will listen to them and, if necessary, the case will be reinvestigated,” Deshmukh told reporters.

Asked if

Loya’s relatives
they were reuniting with him, the minister said, “I don’t want to reveal that.”

Meanwhile, Deshmukh praised police officers who were part of the operation to catch fugitive gangster Ejaz Lakdawala from Patna on Wednesday night.

He said gangster Shifa Shaikh’s daughter had put ‘Manish Advani’ as his father’s name on his passport.

“She was arrested in the fake passport box and Lakdawala was kidnapped after police found out about her whereabouts. Police are investigating who Manish Advani is,” he said.

When asked if the police officers who caught Lakdawala will be rewarded, he said, “They have done a good job and a decision will be made about rewarding them.”

Once an associate of the underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim and gangsters Chhota Shakeel and Chhota Rajan, Lakdawala operated on his own since 2008-09, Deshmukh said.

“He has 26 extortion cases, four cases under Maharashtra’s Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA) and 80 other complaints against him,” the minister said.

On BJP’s criticism that police were under political pressure to drop cases against those who protested the JNU violence at Gateway of India here, Deshmukh said police were proving from where Mumbai resident Mehek Prabhu got the banner with the message “Free Kashmir”, and what his intentions were behind showing it.

“She has given her version of the story and once the investigations are complete, a decision on the FIR will be made,” he said.

Deshmukh also said he has sought a report on the state of the Investigation into Koregaon Bhima violence on January 1, 2018.
