Children who are not in The NRC will not separate from their relatives: Government News – India

NEW DELHI: Children excluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, even though one of their parents is listed in the final NRC, will not be separated from their families until their appeals are finally decided by the foreign courts, the Center said Supreme Court on Monday.
The Center’s response, through attorney general KK Venugopal, was recorded by a bank of CJI SA Bobde and judges BR Gavai and Surya Kant. The AG gave clarification after the petitioner’s lawyer, Kapil Sibal, said that the children, excluded from the NRC despite the inclusion of their parents’ names, should not be dragged to the detention centres.
The bank agreed and said some exception might have to be carved. The AG said the children would not be taken to detention centres even though the SC had asked the government not to conform to the NRC’s final statistics.
Sibal also made a request for the replacement of NRC state coordinator Hitesh Dev Sharma citing his controversial Facebook profile and posts showing his “communal bias”. “It has been named in place of Prateek Hajela. His social media posts show his bias and he doesn’t inspire confidence,” Sibal said.
Although Attorney General Tushar Mehta, who appears for Assam, said that the NRC’s work was over and that the coordinator had little more role to play, the CJI-led bank said the government could ask the coordinator to “explain, clarify and clarify and withdraw” these comments.
“I shouldn’t have said all these things if the so-called social media posts are yours,” the CJI said. The SC asked the Assam government to explain it in four weeks.
Venugopal told the bench that “there are some impediments to the NRC in the future” as the government must first ensure full security of massive data. “This data, like Aadhaar, has to be provided with next-generation security agreements to avoid being breached or hacked by anyone. The SC has already directed that security. This task has to be accomplished,” he said.
