CAA Protests in India: Norwegian woman Janne, who took part in anti-CAA protest in Kochi, asked to leave India | India News

KOCHI: Janne-Mette Johansson (71), the Norwegian woman who was grilled by the immigration officials on Thursday for her participation in an anti-CAA protest organised in Kochi, was asked to leave India by the immigration officials on Friday morning. The officials reached her hotel in Fort Kochi and asked her to pack her luggage and leave the country at the earliest. The Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) Kochi also confirmed the same and said that action will be initiated against her if she doesn’t cooperate.

Janne told TOI that the officials are waiting for her at the hotel lobby and want her to leave the hotel and leave India today itself.

“The offcials just came introduced themselves being from the immigration department and asked me to leave the country ASAP or legal action will be taken,” she said in an upset voice.

While crying she tried she said that she had done everything she thought was right like going to the police and taking assurance from them for the peace march and still this was happening to her. She was upset at the thought that this might be her last trip to India.

Meanwhile a senior FRRO official told TOI that she is not being deported but an action need to be initiated against her as she has violated the VISA norms. “We have asked jer peacefully to leave India as she cannot stay here after violating the rules and still speaking to the media against the government. Her VISA is not cancelled now but of she doesn’t cooperate, she will have to face legal actions,” the official said.
