Bhubaneshwar, Oct. 9 (ANI): The cyclonic storm Hudhud is getting closer to the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast leading to a cyclone warning for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and cyclone alert for north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
The meteorology department in Andhra Pradesh has also asked fishermen not to venture out to sea.
Hudhud is expected to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours and into a very severe cyclonic storm during subsequent 36 hours.
The system would cross north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur around noon on October 12.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General O P Singh on Wednesday said that in anticipation of Cyclone Hudhud, teams have been sent to Orissa and Andhra Pradesh, with a battalion each in Bihar and West Bengal on standby.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also assured that all preparations have been done to meet any eventuality arising out of the cyclonic storm hitting the state’s coast, and added that contingency plans are in place to face the situation. (ANI)
