Sep 26 () : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) continued their dream run in 2014 as they won their 12th consecutive T20 game to qualify for the semi-final of the Champions League T20 (CLT20) tournament.
The opponents to suffer the defeat this time were Perth Scorchers in the hands of Suryakumar Yadav. Batting first, Perth Scorchers could not break the web woven by Sunil Naraine as he never allowed the batsmen to score freely and also checked the run rate with 4 important wickets.
The start of the innings was better than expected for the Scorchers as their openers put on 68 runs in just 9 overs. The wicket came the way of the Knights, thanks to a stumping by Uthappa off the bowling of the 19 year-old Chinaman, Kuldeep Yadav. Two overs later, the pair again joined together to dismiss Marsh in the same manner to reduce the opponents to 81/2.
Narine in the meantime started weaving his magic over the batsmen and the stumpings played in the minds of the batsmen as the middle order wilted under pressure to score quickly only to end up gifting their wickets.
Between the 16th over and the 18th, Scorchers lost 4 wickets to Yadav and Narine as they were reduced from a comfortable 120/2 to 132/6 in just 12 deliveries. The quick wickets helped the Knights restrict the Scorchers to 151/7 in their 20 overs with Narine ending up with 4 wickets and Yadav the remaining 3 wickets but giving away only 24 runs in his 4 overs.
KKR were in trouble early in the chase as they were reduced to 37 for 3 and by the half way stage they were down to 67/4 requiring 84 runs in less than 10 overs with all the top order batsmen in the hut. In the first ball of the 15th over with 65 runs still required, Rn ten Doeschate was dismissed to leave the side in a spot of bother. Suryakumar Yadav entered and as if he had spent ages in the middle, hit two sixes to get 19 runs off the over. This took the pressure off the team to a certain extent .
The wicket of Pathan in the 18th over tilted the tables towards the Scorchers but Yadav was not ready to give up as he sent Counter Nile over the ropes twice in the last 2 deliveries of the 19th over to help KKR achieve victory with 3 wickets to spare. Yadav ended the innings with 43 off just 19 deliveries and helped his team move closer to achieving the double of an IPL and CLT20 title.
