Kochi, Sep 20 (): Shashi Tharoor MP will don the greasepaint for a Malayalam film directed by Rajivnath.
Shashi Tharoor will play the main lead and other actors have not been finalized. The film is an adaptation of a short story written by Karur Neelankantan Pillai. His short story ‘Pothichoru’ will have Shashi Tharoor as the main protagonist.
Rajivnath who is now the Chairman of Chalchitra Academy, after Priyadarshan stepped down, is a known art house director. The film is produced by a French company. So far, Kerala politicians like Rajmohan Unnithan, Panyan Ravindran, chief whip P C George and C K Padmanabhan have acted in films but not in the main lead.
It is a first for a Kerala politician and the credit goes to Shashi Tharoor. Shashi Tharoor will take a two month break from his political assignments. Shashi Tharoor heads the Parliamentary committee on foreign affairs.
Rajivnath is currently directing a film ‘Rasam’ starring Mohanlal and Indrajit for which post-production work is on. Initial reports said that Mohanlal was to play the lead but the director denied it. The film is about the suffering of a school master of yesteryears.
The author is a celebrated short story writer who writes about lives of middle class people. His books have been translated into many Indian languages.
Shashi Tharoor had in the recent past created a flutter when he lauded Sushma Swaraj for her foreign policy initiatives. He has been listed by the Congress as their spokesperson. Shashi Tharoor’s scraping through in Lok Sabha election in Thiruvananthapuram has cost the CPI State‘s unit top leaders their jobs.
CPI fielded a rich industrialist from the Christian Nadar community to polarize the votes as BJP fielded veteran Rajagopal. CPI came third as Shashi Tharoor won with a thin margin and BJP came second. It further turned out that the candidate had paid money to top leaders in CPI to get the election ticket. Some were demoted, some quit and a national executive member has given his resignation.
