Chennai, Sep 17 (): Vikram starrer ‘I’ directed by Shankar has been sold to Jaya TV for Rs 25 crores, the highest for a Tamil film. The previous record was for ‘Jilla’ starring Vijay and Mohanlal. It fetched Rs 18 crores as satellite rights from Sun TV. ‘Jilla’ was sold for this amount as it had Mohanlal the Malayalam Superstar due to which it can be dubbed and released on Surya TV, a sister concern of Sun TV.
Vikram whose earlier outing with Shankar was ‘Anniyan’ was a blockbuster hit and was dubbed in many languages including Hindi.
Suresh Gopi plays a character in ‘I’ with shades of grey. Suresh Gopi did not turn up for the audio launch of the film which had Arnold Schwarzenegger as chief guest. Sources say that the Malayalam actor was upset as the director did not use the dates that he allotted and later when he was called to act, he demanded more money than that was agreed. This led to a stand-off with the producer Aascar Ravichandran which led to a delay in shooting.
Vikram pairs with Amy Jackson in ‘I’. He plays a hunchback in the film and has dropped almost 25 kilos. Vikram kept away from public functions as he did not want to reveal his new look. Vikram-Amy Jackson- Shankar- A R Rahman combo is a Rs 125 crore film. The producer has tied up with Reliance to distribute the film worldwide and in Hindi too.
Vikram had acted in the Hindi version of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ravaan’ and in Bejoy Nambiar’s ‘David’. For the past few years, Vikram was going through a bad patch as many of his films were left half way through for many reasons. Vikram had given two years of his career for ‘I’ and he had to first bring his 80 kilo body down to 60 and the constant use of prosthetic make-up had affected him.
