India Vs England First ODI – Bristol (Preview)

August 25th () : India face England at Bristol in the first match of the ODI series, looking to revive its fortunes in the One Day format after the disappointment of losing the test series 1-3.

The performance of the squad outside Asia has been a disappointment in both tests and ODI’s as they have lost the last 7 ODI’s played outside Asia. The team combination is in similar lines to the team that lost the test series with only 2 known inclusions, Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu who have not set things on fire lately.

India will take confidence that the match is being played at Bristol where they have won all the three matches, beating Kenya, Srilanka and England.  Apart from the Indian skipper, none of the Indian players have played at this ground. The ground will be hosting its first match since 2010 when England lost their match by 5 runs against Bangladesh.

More than the bowlers stepping up, it is the batsmen who need to start scoring. The best batsman of the Indian side in the test series, Rahane, has reached double digits only once during his 6 matches played against South Africa and New Zealand. India will want him to deliver and make the No.5 position his own before the start of the world cup in Australia in Feb 2015.

England too has not had a successful ODI run this season having lost both their series against Australia at home and away and did not do great in the series against Sri Lanka. They have won only 2 of their last 5 ODI’s while India has just done a little better winning 3 of the 5 matches played.

There is a 100% chance of rain interfering during the match and the teams and the crowd will hope that there is time to squeeze in at least a 20 over a side contest and the light holding well , as the ground does not have flood lights.
