Chennai, Aug 20 (): Suriya’s Anjaan (Tamil version) has collected Rs. 30 crores within three days whereas the Telugu version of the film, Sikander, has earned Rs 8 crore, totalling the opening weekend collections of the movie to Rs 38 crore. Now, the film is marching towards the 50 crore mark.
The gangster movie hit screens on 15 August, Independence Day and has received mixed reviews from critics. In spite of receiving negative criticisms, “Anjaan” had taken to an enormous opening because of the pre-release buzz the film had created and heavy advance bookings. As the film opened on a national holiday, the weekend proved to be very good for the film at the box office.
The Suriya starrer is roaring at the domestic box office as well as in the overseas box office. Reports say the shows are going houseful at UK, Malaysia and US. Anjaan has collected Rs 98.82 lakhs in US box office and Rs 67.54 lakhs in UK box office.
Considering Chennai, “Anjaan” has turned out to be biggest opener of 2014 so far. It has surpassed the opening weekend collections of big banners like Ajith’s “Veeram”, Vijay’s “Jilla”, Rajinikanth’s “Kochadaiiyaan” and Dhanush’s “Velai Illa Pattathari” (“VIP”).
Even though the pre-release buzz of the film has helped the film to rake in a fantastic collections on the opening weekend, one has to wait and see if it could sustain its momentum at the box office on the week days.
Directed by ace director, Lingusamy, Anjaan has Suriya doing the lead role and the actor appears in two characters. Samantha plays the female lead and appears in a glamorous avatar. Brahmanandam, Manoj Bajpai and Bollywood actors Vidyut Jamwal are also part of the film’s cast.
Anjaan has all the mass elements packed into it. The film is produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Thirrupathi Brothers. Music for the film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
