India blown away by England, yet again

Aug 17 () : England were the dominant side for the third test in a row as they dismissed India for 148 runs and ended the day at 62 for no loss on the first day of the 5th and final test at The Oval.

The England Skipper, Cook won the toss and invited India to bat under overcast conditions and the pitch was very much similar to the previous test which the Indians lost by an innings.  India went into the game with two changes, Jadeja and Pankaj Singh making way for Ishant Sharma and Binny .

The changes did not help India in any manner, at least when they batted as they lost Gambhir to the very first delivery he faced from Anderson when the ball took the edge of the bat as he was late trying to leave a delivery. Pujara’s horror series continued as he was bowled off Board and Kohli, who has never looked confident even while walking into bat, was out leg before to Jordan when he did not offer a shot to a delivery which just held its line.

Vijay played cautiously and was one of the three to reach double figures but was brilliantly caught off the bowling of Woakes by Root. Rahane, who apart from Dhoni, has had some success this series was caught off the bowling for a duck off Joardan, the third time he has been dismissed caught and bowled this summer leaving India tottering at 36 for 5.

India went into lunch with only 43 on board and immediately after Binny played with a hard hand only to find the ball take the edge and be caught behind.  Six down for 44 was something a repeat of the last match and Ashwin joined Dhoni to play some positive strokes. He was the only other batsman to get into double figures apart from Dhoni and Vijay as he was out caught brilliantly by a diving Root.

After the dismissal of Ashwin with the score on 68, Bhuvanesh Kumar played a rash shot at a delivery way outside off and when Aaron was caught by the bowler himself,  the team was reduced to 90 for 9.

India looked like they would not cross the 100 run mark, but Ishant gave Dhoni good company which helped them add 58 runs for the last wicket and head to tea at 128 for 9 . Dhoni played a lone hand and was the last man out for a well made 82.

England started confidently as the Indian bowlers were unable to create the pressure their English counterparts were able to exert. They closed at a comfortable 62 for no loss in 19 overs showing the pitch had no demons and it was only poor batting coupled with some good bowling that lead India to be dismissed cheaply.

The pick of the English bowlers were Jordan and Woakes who ended up with 3 wickets apiece while Anderson and Broad took 2 wickets each. It was a day when the support bowlers came to party and the “Ali”minator was not required to spin his magic over the Indian batsmen.
