Mumbai, Aug 13 (): Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn are clashing with each other at the box office. Akshay’s ‘Entertainment’ was released last Friday, August 8 and Ajay’s ‘Singham Returns’ is all set to hit the screens on 15th August 2014.
The first weekend box office collection of “Entertainment” was decent. In spite of receiving few negative feedbacks from audiences and not so good reviews from the critics, the film had managed to collect a reasonable sum of Rs 36.69 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic market.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Entertainment Fri 11.16 cr, Sat 11.53 cr, Sun 14 cr. Total: ₹ 36.69 cr nett. India biz”. The domestic collections of the film increased during the weekend due to the good word of mouth.
At a time when Akshay’s Entertainment is doing well, makers of Singham Returns had booked all the single screens across India, restricting Entertainment to a one-week run in single screen cinemas. The shows in the multiplexes will be the same, but that too will depend on how well the film performs at theatres.
Now, with the count down for the release of Ajay Devgn’s “Singham Returns” started, “Entertainment” has only few days to collect a decent sum from the Indian theatres.
Sajid-Farhad duo have made their debut as directors in ‘Entertainment’ and has written the script for ‘Singham Returns’. So, both have also been tangled in the cross fire.
When asked whether they took the effort to settle the matter with the director of ‘Singham Returns’, Rohit Shetty and Sajid confided that the commercial aspect of the films are handled by others. And, so it is all between the big people to sort out the issue.
Sajid added Farhad and himself just wanted both the movies to work well as both the projects are their own creations and people linked to both the movies are all very dear to them.
Now, it has to be seen whether Entertainment will continue to do the same kind of collection even after the release of Ajay Devgn’s Singham Returns, that opens on August 15.
