New Delhi, July 11 (): Amit Shah’s lawyer will be elevated as Supreme Court judge as part of BJP’s modification of all government institutions.
Uday Lalit, the senior counsel for Amit Shah is to be named judge in the Supreme Court. Lalit appeared for Amit Shah in the fake encounter case of Soharabudin and Tulsiram Prajapati. The Law ministry is pulling strings to make Lalith the judge in the apex court as former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanian declined to be a judge in the apex court.
BJP was in the dock as it turned the name of Gopal citing IB and CBI report against him. The Law Minister got rapped by Chief Justice for turning down the list drawn by the collegiums. CJI Lodha had termed it as a move to curtail the independence of judiciary.
BJP on the other hand said that it was going by the rules and a precedent set by UPA. The real reason for Gopal’s name being omitted by BJP government was that he as SG appeared in the fake encounter case against Amit Shah.
The BJP ministry roadmap is clear as Lalit was named in SC list and with Gopal declining to be a candidate after the controversy on his background, it is only natural that the next in line be appointed. The decision is with the Prime Minister. Amit Shah faces two cases of charges of murder and conspiracy. Lalit is also the special prosecutor in the 2G case. If Lalit is made judge, then he would be the sixth lawyer to be directly elevated to the post.
Gopal was amicus curiae in the Sohrabudin encounter case and based on his report, SC ordered a CBI probe. CBI report said that Gopal representing the agency met A Raja’s lawyer during the 2G case and lobbyist Nir Radia had gifted him a free complimentary pass to use the swimming pool of a five-star hotel in Delhi.
Amit Shah is now the national president of BJP. Lalit has been counsel for ex-Punjab CM Amarinder Singh of Congress and Navjot Sidhu and appeared on behalf of the government opposing Binayak Sen bail. He also represents Hasan Ali facing money laundering charges.
