Southern edition of Idea Filmfare Awards to take place on July 12

Chennai, June 19 (): The 61st Idea Filmfare Awards 2013 southern edition will take place at Nehru Indoor Stadium of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu in Chennai on July 12, 2014. Celebrities of Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu film industry are expected to come together on the special evening to honour and celebrate the best talents in their respective fields.

The Filmfare Awards have always attempted for a faultless balance of critical appreciation and public opinion. This year also movie fans and Filmfare readers have voted for their picks in 10 categories in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies. The nominees list will be selected after tabulating carefully the figures from vote count. Then, a specially appointed board will choose the winners from the nominees list, from all regional categories.

Tarun Rai, the chief executive officer said that they were proud of their 60 years; link with the south Indian movies. The film industry has grown greatly in these years, he said. Initially, there were only handful of movies, but now they have more than 607 films competing to get much-sought ‘Black Lady’ of this year.

While commenting on their connection with Idea Cellular, chief corporate affairs officer Rajat Mukarji said that they were in association for more than six years and would again recognize and honour talents from southern film industry this year.

In Kerala and AP, Idea is champion brand and in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the company is a strong challenger brand, with 25% of subscribers from these markets. Further, the southern edition of the Idea Filmfare Awards gives a unique chance to connect them with their consumers with engagement programs and innovative marketing, he said.

The prestigious Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai was the venue of the first Filmfare Awards, it was then moved to Music Academy. At first, only Telugu and Tamil films were considered for awards, Kannada and Malayalam films started participating from 1969 and 1966 respectively.
