Box office collection : Holiday crosses 50 crore mark in five days

Mumbai, June 11 (): Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer “Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty” has made an excellent performance at the domestic box office. The movie had a strong weekend performance and the big budget film also showed big figures on Monday and Tuesday, thus allowing the film to cross the 50 crore mark at the domestic box office.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adharsh tweeted, “#Holiday Fri 12.18 cr, Sat 12.34 cr, Sun 16.80 cr, Mon 8.02 cr, Tue 7.03 cr. Total: ₹56.37 cr nett. India biz. EXCELLENT!”

Released on June 6, Friday, Holiday received positive word of mouth which acted as a good tool to fill up the cash boxes at the box office. The opening day collection was 12.18 crore. The collection grew up steadily on Saturday and Sunday which turned out to be very important days for the film. The collection raised by more than 30% bringing the Sunday collection to 16.80 crore.

Trade experts say they are predicting that the movie will collect Rs 65 crore in one week, if it makes a steady run at the box office.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, “Holiday” was released in 400 screens across 41 countries. In the international market too the film made a fantastic box office collection.

Holiday is the second Bollywood directorial of AR Murugadoss. The movie was promoted as having lot of action-packed stunts made at real locations. Holiday has already beaten the lifetime collections of Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Bhoothnath Returns (Rs 39 crore) and Ragini MMS 2 (Rs 47 crore).

By collecting Rs 12.18 crore on the opening Friday, Holiday has taken the fourth highest opening day grosser of 2014, after Salman Khan’s Jai Ho that collected Rs 17.55 crore, Ranveer Singh-Arjun Kapoor starrer Gunday with Rs 16.12 crore and Arjun Kapoor’s 2 States that earned Rs 12.42 crore on the opening day. Also, Holiday stands third in the highest opening weekend of the current year – behind Jai Ho (Rs 58.07 crore) and Gunday (Rs 40.26 crore).
