IPL 7 (May 28 Preview ) : Eliminator – Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings

May 28 () : Defending Champions Mumbai Indians (MI) meet two time champions and last year’s runner up Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in IPL 7’s Eliminator today at 8 pm IST.

It has been a fairy tale journey for Mumbai Indians who lost their first 5 matches of the season but came back strongly in the second half of the tournament. The final match against Rajasthan Royals was once in a life time victory as they chased 190 runs in 14.3 overs, at a run rate of 13. 2 , thanks to the Kiwi all-rounder Corey Anderson who smashed a 44 ball 90 and turned the game on its head.

Mumbai Indians have not clicked as a batting unit all through the tournament and it was only individual brilliances that has given them victories. The other night was an exception, as all players chipped in with useful hits. Rohit Sharma has not scored much in the last few games while big scores are missing for Pollard as well. Both these batsmen will look to contribute in a big way in today’s game.

Ambati Rayudu was instrumental in the victory the other day with a 10 ball 30 and he is one of the few Indians in IPL 7 who has been consistent. MI will be pinning their hopes on him to carry out his finisher role to perfection, yet again.

Of the bowlers who have bowled more than 50 overs in IPL 7, Harbhajan Singh has the second best economy rate of 6.5 , after Narine’s 5.9 . In the absence of Malinga, a contribution from the senior statesmen is necessary to induce confidence to the bowling unit.

For Chennai, problems are plenty with the bowlers losing steam as the tournament has progressed. On an average, the quicks have bowled only 6.3 overs in the last 7 games or so as the team has relied on its slow bowlers to deliver. In games which CSK have lost, Ashwin has given away runs at 8+ per over while for Jadeja the nos are more than 10+ . Ashwin has not had much support from Jadeja in terms of control at the other end and whatever pressure exerted by him is relieved by the bowler from the other end.

Chennai will rely on its batsmen to come good today and put up a score which their bowlers can defend. MI on the other hand will look to avenge their 2 defeats to Chennai this season with a victory which matters most.
