May 26 () : Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) handed over Delhi Daredevils (DD) their 7th straight loss in IPL 7 and ensured they ended with the wooden spoon for the 2nd year running.
Put into bat, Delhi Daredevils’ innings never got going as none of the batsmen , with exception to Pietersen scored more than 13. Pietersen played a pleasing innings with 58 off 41 balls which contained 9 hits to the boundary. Kings XI Punjab’s hold on the innings was evident from the fact that there was not a single six hit in the entire Delhi innings.
The downfall this season for DD has been its inability to play as a unit and today their batsmen failed to play around Pietersen though he was in good form. The team could not even survive for 20 overs and were bowled out in 18.1 overs with 3 batsmen failing to open their account.
Four of the five bowlers used chipped in with 2 wickets each while Dhawan picked up one. Though all the bowlers contributed, the pick out bowlers were Awana with 2 for 15 and Kanveer Singh with 2 for 22. The bowling should give the KXIP management some comfort as there have been some chinks lately.
Back to its full strength, KXIP lost 2 quick wickets in the form of Sehwag for 9 and Maxwell for a duck. Unadkat’s wicket of Maxwell would have made the KKR team take note of the mode of dismissal – a short delivery outside off making the batsmen play a pull shot without conviction.
Miller and Vohra played to their strength and kept the score board ticking. Vohra( 47 from 38) played a range of shots and it showed that he belonged by carting Neesham for 18 runs in the 6th over with the help of 2 boundaries and a six. Just when 4 runs were required for victory, Vohra missed the ball from Tahir and his stumps were rearranged. Miller(47 off 33) ensured the contest ended in the 14th over itself with a six making it an emphatic win for KXIP and showing their supremacy in IPL 7.
