Chennai, May 26 (): Rajinikanth starrer Kochadaiiyaan grossed Rs. 42 crore at the box office in its opening weekend, said a statement released by Eros International Media.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, ‘#Kochadaiiyaan weekend breakup [gross figures]: India ₹ 30 cr. Overseas ₹ 12 cr’.
Eros International Media Ltd announced the opening weekend of Rajinikanth’s ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ as a blockbuster. Die-hard fans of Rajini are calling the weekend as the ‘futuristic fantasy event of the year’ as ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ – The Legend has earned at the worldwide box office, a huge Rs 42 crore gross.
Kochadaiiyaan was released in 2D and 3D versions on 23 May, 2014 by Eros International in more than 3,000 screens all over the world in 6 languages. The distribution of the film in Tamil Nadu was undertaken directly by the Eros International.
Even though the movie received negative word of mouth in the trade centres as well as among the audience, the collection of the movie is unstoppable. The Rajinikanth starrer has proved the magic of Rajinikanth; in spite of the negative feedback about the film, it has won the hearts of the audience.
The opening weekend collections show the movie is doing amazing business at the collection centres. Now, the multilingual film, Kochadaiiyaan is marching towards the 50-crore mark at the box office.
Eros says the movie will touch the 100 crore mark soon. They say markets with stronghold on actor Rajini like UAE, Singapore and Malaysia have shown wonderful performance.
Nandu Ahuja, the Senior V P of India Theatrical, Eros International Media Ltd said that Kochadaiiyaan is attracting huge number of audience to theatres as it has high-octane action shots made using photo realistic animation. Further, Rajinikanth’s life persona is also wowing audiences to great lengths.
Kochadaiiyaan, directed by Rajinikanth’s younger daughter Soundarya Ashwin, is a heroic dramatization of good against evil starring Rajinikanth in a double role.
