May 24(): Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) today and will hope to keep their chances alive of qualifying for the play offs of IPL 7, which at this point of time , looks very remote.
Though both Mumbai Indians(MI) and SRH are on the same points, MI are ahead due to the net run rate. Hyderabad needs to win really big today even to have an outside chance of qualifying.
For SRH , Dhawan’s return to form would be a welcome sign as he has scored runs freely after being relieved of the skipper duties. The team has won both games under the new skipper Sammy, indicating that a change a bit earlier, could have helped the team get to the play offs.
Steyn has been hit for plenty by A B De Villiers and Dhoni indicating that he is not invincible in this format of the game where the batsmen are ready to take lot more risks than in an ODI or test match scenario. Bhuvanesh Kumar too has hit for some runs in the last couple of games.
Kolkata Knight Riders will enter the contest with plenty of confidence and look to win their 7th match on the trot. Uthappa has hit a purple patch and is on top of his game with a streak of 7 scores of 40+ and in the company of Gambhir has tormented most of the opening bowlers. A win today will also move them to second spot and even if CSK win today, a higher victory margin can guarantee them the second place, giving them two opportunities to qualify for the finals.
The timely return to form of Shakib’s batting to go with his splendid bowling has given them the all rounder which other teams are searching for. Narine on the other hand has been very difficult to score off and currently is the only bowler with an economy of 6 in the competition. Add to this the wickets he has taken and you have a match winner.
The recent form points to KKR taking the game, but with a never say die attitude, Sammy heading SRH, KKR’s plans for finishing 2nd may face some stiff challenge.
