AAP journalists and BJP Lawyers lose in polls

New Delhi, May 19 () : AAP and BJP who fielded lawyers and journalists in the just concluded polls have found that the intellectual image does not connect with voters.

Only Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP spokesperson and lawyer had won the poll. AAP fielded lawyers and journalists since they did not have a tainted image and the party’s appeal was primarily in the urban areas. AAP- BJP and Congress too saw lawyers losing by huge margins.

The lawyers who lost from Congress are heavyweights Khurshid, Sibal and Tankha (ex-Addl Solicitor General).

BJP’s spokesperson and leader Arun Jaitley and legal luminary lost to Captain Amarinder Singh, the Congress candidate and former Punjab CM. Chidambaram, a Supreme Court lawyer and FM decided to stay away from elections.

BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi, who stood in the New Delhi constituency and won, is the only lawyer to win in the Lok Sabha. Even though Jaitley lost, he is tipped to be getting the finance portfolio.

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP has two lawyers- Jethmalani and Ravi Shankar Prasad,; the latter is tipped to get law ministry.

H S Phoolka, senior Supreme Court advocate who hit the limelight to fight for 1984 riot victims stood in Ludhiana. He too got defeated by only a small margin unlike other lawyers.

DMK’s A Raja is a lawyer who lost the election.

Sibal came third in Chandni Chowk with BJP’s Harsh Vardhan winning the seat.

AAP candidate, former TV journalist Ashutosh came second. Shazia Ilmi, TV anchor and other ex- journalists Ashish Khetan, Anita Pratap and Jarnail Singh of AAP were defeated.

Chandan Mitra who is the editor of Pioneer newspaper and Rajya Sabha MP were fielded by BJP in Bengal. He came third with TMC winning the seat and Left in the second spot.

Kumar Vishwas is a stand-up comedy actor who was fielded by AAP in Amethi against Rahul. He made claims that for the first time the Gandhi scion was facing opposition. AAP got 25,000 votes.
