Mumbai, May 3 (): Arrest warrant has been issued against Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, lead actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The arrest warrants have been issued following complaints which mentioned that some scenes of the film were hurtful on religious grounds.
Warrants have also been issued against Kishore Lulla – another producer of Ram Leela, lyricists as well as the musicians of the movie. On issuing arrest warrants, SP Singh, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) had directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to arrest concerned persons and produce them at court on June 4.
Ram Leela was released worldwide last year November for Diwali. A case was filed over the movie by an advocate named Sudhir Kumar Ojha last year November claiming that a few scenes in Ram Leela directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali had hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus.
After following the case filed on Ram Leela, the High Court of Madhya Pradesh put a ban on Ram Leela’s release till 22 November but the film was released on November 12. On February 14, 2014, the CJM had taken cognisance of the case and had summoned the director and the actors, who did not turn up. Today the arrest warrants have been issued to the makers of the film as well as the cast.
Ram Leela was a big hit at the box office. Although most of the people enjoyed the film, some were against the contents of the film saying that it had hurt certain religious sentiments of the Hindus. The petitioners had requested to change the name of the film as it depicts a very misleading picture of the mythological story Ramlila and Rasleela.
Ram Leela is set in the backdrop of Gujarat. Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone) live in the same village, but their families have developed hatred for each other since the past 500 years. Ram and Leela fall in love with each other. Set in a land of guns, vengeance, Ram and Leela fight the world to live their own dreams.
