Pawan Kalyan-TDP ties get a jolt

Hyderabad, Apr 19 ():Pawan Kalyan’s newly formed Jana Sena Party got a jolt, as Naidu of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) declared party veteran Kesineni Srinivas as its candidate from Vijayawada.

Pawan Kalyan had put forth the condition that his nominee P Vara Prasad an industrialist be given the seat. Vijayawada considered TDP bastion was much sought after and there was intense lobbying from various quarters for the party nomination.

Kesineni, a transporter and TDP’s constituency in-charge for the past four years received a shock when Naidu bowing to the demand from Pawan Kalyan decided to nominate the industrialist P Vara Prasad.

Sources said that Pawan Kalyan wanted seat for Prasad in exchange of his support for the TDP. The reason for his keen interest in Prasad was that he was reportedly funding the star’s political party.

Protests from within the TDP and by the supporters of Kesineni made Naidu change his mind and he gave the B form to Kesineni. Pawan Kalyan’s reaction to this new development was not known since he was away in Karnataka campaigning for the BJP. Sources say that Pawan Kalyan might keep away from TDP seats and limit his campaign to BJP.

TDP received yet another boost in coastal Andhra as Congress MP Magunta Srinivaslu Reddy joined the party.

Congress party, which is facing a rout in Seemandhra region promised free TV and a dish connection for every BPL family and laptops for Government school students. The other sops are a 100-square yard plot registered in the name of a girl child at the time of her birth and a house to be constructed on the plot at the time of her marriage. The manifesto also promised no electricity bill to any household, which consumes 100 units per month.

The retirement age for the government employees will be increased to 60 years from the present 58. Other sops include calamity relief fund of Rs 5,000 crore to help farmers in case of loss of crops, offering national status to Pollavaram project which will irrigate 7 lakh acres of land and produce 900 MW electricity.

The project, was facing opposition from Telangana as it will utilize 80 TMC feet of Godavari water, Jairam Ramesh, Reddy the Congress committee president and campaign committee head Chiranjeevi were present on the occasion of the manifesto release.

BJP in its election manifesto for Telangana region promised free laptops for meritorious students and Rs 1 lakh for girl students. For the farmers, BJP has promised increase from seven hour to nine-hour free power supply, and a separate budget for agriculture sector alone.

BJP will build a memorial to those died for the cause of Telangana and their families can either opt for Rs 10 lakh compensation or choose to take three acres of land.
