Mumbai, Apr 12 (): Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has acquired the Jaipur authorisation of the IPL-style Pro Kabbadi league to be held in July-August in the country for an undisclosed sum.
Abhishek announced on Thurday his support to the Jaipur franchise of Pro-Kabaddi, a professional Kabaddi league. After becoming the owner of Pro Kabaddi’s Jaipur franchise, he has plans to promote this Indian sport in a systematic manner.
Since the cricket league tournament IPL launched in India, we could witness many film industry celebrities entering into the sports world very often. It is pretty interesting to hear the news, Abhishek Bachchan has acquired a Pro-kabaddi team, when most of the well-known B-town people have financed in cricket teams.
Jaipur is one among the 8 city based teams taking part in the Pro Kabaddi League. The other teams are owned by Kishore Biyani (Kolkata), Ronnie Screwvala (Mumbai), Uday Kotak (Pune), Core Green Group (Vizag), Kalapathi Investments (Chennai) and Rana Kapoor (Delhi). In few days, the Bangalore franchise owner will be decided.
Abishek told reporters that he was very excited and happy to be part of what he considered to be India’s Kabaddi revolution. Being a sportsman and being a sports devotee, he said, it was very exciting to be able to be part of this attempt.
He added all of us are cricket lovers and he too an ardent cricket lover. He asserted cricket is a British sport and by acquiring a Kabaddi franchise and making use of this opportunity, he could promote our own sport Kabaddi.
The Kabaddi matches will be held from July 26, 2014 to August 31, 2014 and would be telecast live on Star Sports. All the matches would be played on specially made mats in state-of-art indoor grounds across eight cities.
Ahead of the matches, a players auction including 72 Indian and 28 overseas players, including Pakistanis, would be held between June 7 and June 10,2014.
