TN BJP alliance might crumble

Chennai,Mar 14 (): BJP grand alliance has run into trouble with DMDK and PMK not willing to let go of the claim on certain seats.

Vijayakanth like Jayalalithaa has kick-started his poll campaign without waiting for BJP to announce the constituencies for his party. Party sources say that No 5 is his lucky number; today being March 14 numerologically adds up to 5. His poll schedule covers Dharmapuri which PMK has staked a claim.

Yet another seat is Sriperumbudur from where DMDK youth wing president and brother-in-law L K Sudish is to contest. PMK is planning to put one of its top leaders in this seat.

BJP president Pon Radhakrishnan has rushed to Delhi with the allies’ wish list. Meanwhile, the Puducherry State unit of PMK has told Ramadoss that it would put up a candidate against the ruling AINRC who is part of BJP alliance.

Vanniyar caste votes are a decisive factor in Puducherry. PMK is fielding its founder’s son and former Union Minister Anbumani for LS election. PMK feels that Pon Radhakrishnan is yielding to DMDK since he wants its support in the Kanyakumari constituency from where he plans to contest. Kanyakumari has a strong RSS base and DMDK had polled a lakh of votes.

BJP is also in a tussle with PMK over certain seats like Salem. According to sources, PMK will not yield to BJP and might go it alone. The party leadership has the feedback that its cadres would not work for DMDK and vice versa. Indication to this is that Ramadoss and Vijayakanth are campaigning in Dharmapuri on the same day but not from the same stage.

Except for BJP and MDMK who would support the alliance candidate, DMDK and PMK would not campaign for each other. BJP has to play a balancing act or dump PMK and go along with DMDK. BJP leaders themselves are upset that it has only 9 seats as being the one who leads the alliance while DMDK gets 14 seats.
