Mata Amritanandamayi devotees call to boycott TV channels

Kochi, Feb 26 (): Mata Amritanandamayi devotees took a protest march asking for a boycott of certain TV channels that have been following up the sexual abuse allegation mentioned in a book written by the God woman’s ex aide.

A lawyer filed a complaint with the police quoting the allegations stated in the book. The police have said that it would not initiate action on Mata Amritanandamayi mutt and would only do investigation. The lawyer plans to move a contempt of court.

Mata Amritanandamayi mutt has got support from the Congress party in Kerala which heads the UDF Government. Kerala police through cyber crime wing lodged cases against those who attacked spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi in the social media. Former disciple, Gail Tredwell’s book alleged that she was sexually abused by senior members.

Kerala’s Congress chief VM Sudheeran said that there was no reason to doubt the explanation given by the Mutt and there was no need for any more discussion as Mata Amritanandamayi had responded to the charges. Kerala’s CM Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala too defended the Mutt.

Mata Amritanandamayi said the controversy mainly in social networking sites was to create disharmony. The police claims that the lawyer who gave a complaint on Mata Amritanandamayi mutt has no locus standi but the lawyer says it is for cops to investigate.

The wealth of the Mata Amritanandamayi family members and the ashram mentioned in the book has not come under scrutiny. The mutt is coming under the charitable registration society act of the State. Kerala CM says that considering the charitable work of Mata Amritanandamayi, one should not look further.

Only CPM has responded negatively while its ally CPI says it is to yet to read the book to react. RSS and BJP have termed the attack on the mutt as global conspiracy to destroy communal harmony.
