Panjim,Feb 18 (): Tehelka’s woman journalist, who filed a police complaint of sexual assault by the magazine co-founder Tarun Tejpal , didn’t scream or shout when he pulled her into the lift because of the presence of VIP guests in the vicinity, the journalist was quoted in the charge sheet.
The alleged sexual assaults on November 7 and 8 2013 took place in the hotel lift during the Thelka’s Think Festival in Goa which featured several prominent speakers. The journalist was assigned to chaperone Hollywood star Robert De Niro who was the chief guest. She was keen that the situation be handled as professionally and firmly, the charge sheet said.
Tehelka’s lawyers had shown video footage and photos to show the journalist was going about her job in a normal and that only on November 18 she sent her first email to the magazine’s managing editor and therefore it looked a preplanned move to discredit Tejpal.
The victim said despite Tejpal’s advances, she did not complain during the conduct of the festival for fear of losing her job if she left the assignment given to her. She further stated that Tejpal would now feel that he was entitled to use her body whenever he wanted, and would further behave in this manner.
The 2,684-page charge sheet filed before CJM has quoted 152 witnesses including the victim, Tehelka staff and the investigating office. There is enough evidence to prove that Tejpal has admitted to sexual advances. Tehelka co-founder Tejpal after being charge sheeted yesterday under the new anti-rape law has today said that he is a victim of political vendetta.
Tehelka had done sting operation on BJP president Laxman and this led to defence minister’s resignation. Laxman went into oblivion. The Goa state which has a BJP ministry fast tracked the case with unusual speed.
The next hearing of the bail application of Tehelka case comes up on March 3.
