Mumbai, Feb 17 (): Ranveer Singh-Arjun Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer “Gunday” had got a solid first weekend with the film earning Rs 43.93 crore nett at the Indian box office.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adfarsh tweeted, “#Gunday Fri 16.12 cr, Sat 12.63 cr, Sun 15.18 cr. Total: ₹ 43.93 cr nett. India biz only. Excellent!”

Gunday opened in 2,800 screens across the country on Valentine’s Day February 15, Friday. The film opened to a good start, minting Rs 16.12 crore on Friday, but its collections dropped on the second day with the film collecting Rs 12.63 crore.

There was a significant jump in the collections on the third day (Sunday) and the film has made Rs 15.18 crore. The first weekend collections amount to Rs 43.93 crore, which is really good for the action drama.

Even though Gunday did a superb business in its opening weekend, the film could not exceed the 50-crore mark. Further, the success of the movie depends upon how the film performs on weekdays. Usually, the fact considered at the box office is if a crime thriller maintains its momentum during the first weekend, it has high chances of making it big at the Indian box office.

The expectations that rode on Gunday have been always high after the first trailer was released several weeks ago. Experienced traders have predicted that Gunday is the next Rs 100 crore grosser. Gunday received mixed reviews from critics, but it has been well received by the audience which is obvious from its collections.

In overseas circuits too, the film did a fabulous business and had managed 6 cr plus on day one and 16 cr plus in over weekend approximate.

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Gunday, set in 1970′s Calcutta, has action, romance and revenge as the key elements.
