Mumbai, Jan 27 (): Jai Ho has been a slow starter and failed to beat the record of Dhoom 3 on its opening day. The film collected only Rs 17.55 crore on the opening day of its release.
Aamir Khan starrer Dhoom 3 has the highest opening day domestic box office collection record of Rs 36.22 crore and also has the highest single day collections of Rs 38.03 crore. The film also has the highest opening weekend and opening week box office collection record with Rs 107.61 crore and Rs 188.99 crore respectively.
Salman Khan’s Jai Ho has been released after a long gap of more than a year. His last film Dabbang 2 was released on December 21, 2012. Jai Ho was expected to smash all box office records, but the movie have not had a good start. While Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger had collected Rs 32.92 crore and emerged as the highest first day grosser, Jai Ho has failed to break that record.
Trade analysts say the film could earn Rs 100 crore in the first week, only if it collects Rs 12-13 crore a day from Monday and if the first weekend collections exceed Rs 50 crore. Jai Ho’s run at the box office also rests on the competition it faces from Abhay Deol’s One by Two, scheduled to be released on January 31.
Puneet Sahay of Spice Cinemas said seeing the performance, ‘Jai Ho’ is likely touch Rs.100 crore in a week, but not in the first three days of its release. Some people from the audience said that it is repetitive. People are perhaps fed up of the fact that Salman is continuously doing action movies, he said.
Salman’s blockbuster films “Wanted”, “Dabangg”, “Dabangg 2″ and “Ek Tha Tiger” were all action-packed dramas. “Jai Ho” also belongs to the same category.
Directed by Salman’s brother Sohail, Jai Ho also stars newcomer Daisy Shah along with Danny Denzongpa and Tabu. It is a political thriller with a heavy dose of action sequences featuring Salman.
