PM lays foundation stone for advanced cancer treatment centre in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan.11 (ANI): Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh has laid the foundation stone for the Hadron Therapy Centre in Mumbai to provide focused radiation therapy to cancer patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singh said it was the first such facility in India.

“This is the first such facility in India and it places India among the select group of countries in the world to offer this advance treatment method for cancer,” he said.

The Centre for the Tata Memorial Centre would be completed within four years at a cost of Rs. 425 crore.

“We expect this project, costing around Rupees 425 crore, and funded entirely by the Government of India through the department of atomic energy, to be completed in less than four years,” he added.

The Prime Minister would also lay the foundation stone for a new building for women and paediatric cancer patients. (ANI)
