Chennai, Jan 9 (): Jilla starring Vijay was reported to be hitting roadblocks over its release tomorrow, January 10 over a producer’s petition in the City Civil Court in which he claimed that he had registered the name ’Jilla in the year 2008 itself for a dubbed film.
R Mahendran of Soumita Sri Arts claimed that he was a member of the Film and Television Producers’ Guild of South India. He went on to say that he had released the dubbed version in some areas and waiting to release in other areas, for which he sought a stay order against the release of Vijay starrer Jilla. He wanted the makers of Jilla to change the film title not to affect his revenue.
The case came up for hearing in the City Civil Court today. PL Narayanan, lawyer representing Jilla producer Super Good Films said that the petitioner had no right to claim the title and his registration in the Guild had expired last year. He also said that Mahendran had opted to file a case in the court just prior to the film release when Jilla was all along being promoted widely through teasers, media releases and advertisements.
Dismissing the application, the Judge pointed out that the petitioner in addition to not being a member the Film and Television Producers’ Guild of South India, he had also not attempted to renew the title. Pointing out that the petitioner’s suit was much delayed, the Judge said that the petitioner had not stated a proper reason for his belated filing of suit (Courtesy: The Hindu).
With the legal roadblocks all cleared, Jilla starring Vijay and Mohanlal will see its theatrical release tomorrow, January 10, as originally scheduled, much to the delight of Vijay’s fans and relief for the stakeholders.
Meantime, our sources say the loyal fans of Vijay have erected a massive 80 feet cut-out of Vijay atop Pilot Theatre in the city to celebrate the release of Jilla tomorrow.
