Mumbai, Jan 7 (): Dhoom 3 released under the banner Yash Raj Films has created history. The film has broken the record of all past blockbusters like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Krrish 3’ and has become the all-time top grosser earning Rs 500 crore which is a first ever record in the history of Indian cinema.
A statement was issued by Yash Raj Films (YRF), the production house of Dhoom franchise, on Monday that citied figures for the worldwide collections. The statement said Dhoom 3 that released on December 20, 2013, has collected 501.35 crores worldwide, making Rs 351.29 in India and Rs 150.06 overseas.
The statement also read, “Dhoom 3 continues to create history at both the Indian and overseas box office. It is now officially the first Indian film to cross Rs. 500 crore worldwide”.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “In terms of *gross BO numbers*, #Dhoom3 is the first Hindi film to cross ₹ 500 cr mark *worldwide*. Creates History”.
Dhoom 3 has not only crushed the record created by Chennai Express to become the largest overseas grosser among Bollywood movies but has also managed to earn a huge portion of its total box-office collections from the international market.
Now, almost all records that exist have been crushed by the film and is on its way to set new benchmarks and standards that can be broken only by an exceptional film.
The action thriller film has also shattered the overseas records and has become the highest grosser ever in key markets including United States-Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The movie is yet to release in international regions like Romania, Japan, Germany, Peru, Russia and Turkey.
Aamir’s “Ghajini” created the elite 100 crore club and “3 Idiots” started the elitist 200 crore club. “Dhoom 3″ is expected to start the 300 crore club. But, trade experts predict starting 300 crore club is bit difficult for the film as the film’s collections have started to decline. As new films are releasing in coming weeks, “Dhoom 3″ is predicted to struggle at the box office in the coming days.
