Kabaddi World Cup 2013 : India defeat Pakistan to lift men’s title

Ludhiana, Dec 15 (): In the fourth World Cup Kabaddi played at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on Saturday night, India beat Pakistan by 48-39 points to emerge out as the champions.

The win is the fourth consecutive win for the defending champion India and they retained the title by defeating Pakistan with a margin of nine points.

Indian team entered the 4th Kabaddi World Cup final, beating USA 51-33 in their semi-final on Wednesday. Pakistan stormed into the final after devastating the American team and while playing with India to clinch the men’s title, Pakistan managed to take only 39 points, while India scored 48 points.

In addition to winning the trophy, the hosts have also bagged a cash award of Rs two crore while Pakistan got the runners-up trophy and Rs one crore. Besides the trophy and cash prize, tractors were also awarded for the best raider and stopper of the game.

In the first-half, it was a tight battle between the two sides. However, as the match advanced India slowly started leading and finally beat the Pakistani players.

The title match was attended by many dignitaries, including Pakistan’s Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and many more. Bearing the cold, they were all present till the match concluded close to midnight.

Prior to the match, Pakistan Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif had said that “if India wins, it means Pakistan’s neighbour has won and we will congratulate you. If Pakistan wins, your [India] neighbour wins, and you can congratulate us.”

Pakistani team has won all the matches in the competition excluding the title match. Also, the national team has won all five matches in their Group B that had Canada, England, Sierra Leone, Scotland and Denmark.
