Ludhiana, Dec 14 (): India will take on Pakistan in the men’s final of the 4th World Cup Kabaddi at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana today, December 14.
In the semi-finals, India crushed England by 63-32 points and Pakistan beat USA by 51-33 points. The winning team will take home a cash reward of Rs.2 crore.
Pakistan’s Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be watching the final match from the stands. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said, the presence of chief ministers of Punjab of both countries is likely to boost cultural, sports, tourism and trade ties between both countries.
Sukhbir Badal would distribute prizes to the winner and the runner-up. The last three World Cup matches in 2010, 2011 and 2013 were also held at Ludhiana where the Indian men emerged as the winners crushing Pakistan twice and Canada.
On Thursday, the Indian women’s Kabaddi team won the women’s final. Indian women have won the championship for the third time in a row, defeating new comers New Zealand by 49-21 points in the match played at Guru Gobind Singh sports complex.
The Indian women headed the New Zealand players in most part of the match and were also strong enough to challenge the visitors in the second half, on course to a loud win.
Anu Rani was declared the best stopper while Ram Bateri was announced the best raider. Both the ladies won a Maruti Alto car each along with the cash prizes.
The prize money for the women’s title has been raised four times in WCK-2013 compared to the first edition. It will now be Rs.1 crore to the winner team. The prize money for men’s would be Rs.2 crore to the winning team.
The teams finishing second and third in the men’s section will get a prize money of Rs.1 crore and Rs.51 lakh. In the women’s section, the teams have got Rs.51 lakh and Rs.25 lakh respectively.
