Sachin Tendulkar to campaign for Congress in MP

New Delhi,Oct 26 (): Sachin Tendulkar is likely to campaign for Congress in Madhya Pradesh, say reports. He will attend nine poll rallies whose dates are to be finalised.

State Congress leader Pramod Gugalia has confirmed the development. Union Minister and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia had said that he would ask Sachin to campaign for the Congress party in the state. Sachin would be speaking as a non-Congress man.

Sachin Tendulkar was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the ruling UPA government last year. MP has one crore youth voters in the state. Film actor Rekha and industrialist Anu Aga were nominated to Rajya Sabha last year. The state, having a total of 230 Assembly seats, will go to polls on November 25.

Aam Aadmi Party has asked Sachin not to associate with Kandivili Club after the Mumbai Cricket Association decided to name it after the master blaster.

The AAP says Sachin Tendulkar should not associate with the MCA’s Kandivili Club. A party release said Mumbai leader Damania wrote to Sachin Tendulkar. It termed the club a symbol of shameless loot by politicians of national resource since the MCA club which has blatantly usurped a playground meant for Mumbai’s children and made it into a posh club for the rich and famous. This has deprived children who are now forced to play in sidelanes, the AAP wrote.

Many such public playgrounds have been taken over by politicians and converted into elite clubs. AAP has filed a PIL against the Kandivili club. The AAP says that such posh clubs should come in commercial land and not on public playgrounds.

Sachin’s campaign for Congress would put him in a cross-fire between the Congress and the BJP-Sena combine in his home turf. Sena has backed Modi and Sachin batting for Congress would be an embarrassment.

Sena which controls the Bombay Corporation has objected to MCA naming the club after Sachin on technical grounds. If the campaign takes place, then it would signal the God of Cricket, next innings in political field.
