Lucknow, Oct 12 (): Raja Bhaiya who resigned from the ministry after he was named in the FIR for aiding the murder of a police officer was taken back by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. A portfolio is yet to be given.
Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya was sworn-in by Governor BL Joshi in the presence of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and senior Cabinet minister Mohd Azam Khan.
Slamming Raja Bhaiya’s re-induction, Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said that the Uttar Pradesh government is drifting, and should not just change the Cabinet but also the way it runs the administration.
One time ally, BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath said that when people like Shivpal Yadav and Azam Khan are ministers in the Uttar Pradesh government, then why can’t Raja Bhaiya. One does not expect more from this government, added Adityanath.
Raja Bhaiya was elected as an Independent MLA from Kunda in Pratapgarh district. He had resigned from the ministry seven months ago after he was named in a FIR on the attack by a mob that led to murder of police officer Zia-ul-Haq. Haq, a DySP posted in Kunda circle. His widow Parveen Azad alleged, the mob acted at Raja Bhaiya’s behest. The killing created a national outrage and embarrassed the UP state government. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last month gave Raja Bhaiya a clean chit in the case.
Sources say that a new face from Western UP could be taken in the ministry as part of pacifying the region after Muzaffarnagar riots. Parveen Azad, wife of slain DSP Zia-ul-Haq would appeal against giving a clean chit to Raja Bhaiya. CBI filed a “technical” closure report in the FIR filed by Haq’s wife in which she had named Raja Bhaiya of conspiring to murder her husband.
