New Delhi, Oct 1 (): Yuvraj Singh makes a comeback to Indian squad after being selected for the T20 and first three ODIs against Australia. But, the selectors have unnoticed the comeback offers of the two senior cricketers from Delhi, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.
The 31-year-old explosive batsman has been included after eight months in the 15-man squad for the Twenty20 International and the first three matches in the seven-match ODI series against Australia at home. Yuvraj’s last ODI was against England at Dharamsala in January this year.
Inclusion of Yuvaraj in the squad was one of the four changes that the senior national selection committee made to the squad that won the ICC Champions Trophy and the tri-series in the Caribbean earlier this year.
On his return to the game after his illness, Yuvraj had shown hints of the man who had played a big role in making India the first home team to win a World Cup. But, his comeback after his illness was not that successful; his slow movement and heavy frame repeatedly pulled him down. Consequently, the all-rounder lost the next three limited-over assignments of India.
After being dropped from the ODI side at the start of this year, Singh was given the opportunity in the recent one-dayers for India ‘A’ against the West Indies ‘A’ and the Challenger Trophy in which he led India Blue to title win.
Yuvraj has scored 123, 40 and 61 in three List A matches against the West Indies A followed by a quick fire 52 in the lone T20 game.
A present player, who has seen Yuvraj Singh from close quarters in both the series against West Indies ‘A’ and the Challengers, said that Yuvraj “is very positive about himself now”.
India plays the T20 game against the Aussies on October 10 at Rajkot. And the ODI series begins on October 13 in Pune.
