Mumbai, Sep 23 (): Shahid Kapur-Ileana’s comedy flick “Phata Poster Nikla Hero” (PPNH) made decent collections at the domestic box office, but the film’s overall opening weekend collections remain low as the opening day of its release failed to show good figures at the Indian box office.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#PhataPosterNikhlaHero collected approx Rs 21.25 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup: Fri Rs 6 cr, Sat Rs 7 cr, Sun Rs 8.25 cr”.
“Phata Poster Nikla Hero” raked in Rs. 6 crore on its first day and showed a significant growth on the collections on the second day; PPNH fetched approximately Rs. 7 crore. Sunday collections were also great, by collecting Rs. 8.25 crore, thus, the total collections for the first weekend has approximately become Rs. 21.25 crore nett.
The film business was good in UP, Rajasthan and Mysore but remained below average in other places.
Phata Poster Nikla Hero features Salman Khan and Nargis Fakri in special appearances. Yesteryear actress Padmini Kolhapure, Saurabh Shukla and Sanjay Mishra are featured in supporting roles. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, PPNH is about a man named Vishwas Rao, who is a die-hard fan of Salman Khan and dreams of becoming an actor, but was mistaken for a police officer. The film received mixed reviews from critics, which might have hampered its collections.
The Shahid starrer has received good response from the audience as compared to his last two films “Teri Meri Kahaani” and “Mausam”. Director Santoshi says PPNH will bring huge success for the actor.
Made at a budget of Rs 40 crore, the film is likely to struggle to earn its production cost. However, as no big film is releasing this week, “PPNH” might recover its production cost by second weekend of its release.
“PPNH” box office collections may be affected by Ranbir Kapoor’s “Besharam” that hits the screens worldwide on October 2.
