Mumbai, Sep 15 () : Bigg Boss 7 which goes on air today in GEC channel Colors is the most expensive show of Indian television.
Each episode costs Rs 1.2 crore and has 95 episodes taking the total figure to Rs 110-115 crores. Salman Khan is said to be paid around Rs 10 crore for the entire season. The seventh season produced by Endemol which appears in Viacom18’s Colors, is second to IPL in terms of TV telecasts. The show starts today and ends on December 18.
However, Bigg Boss 7 has competition from Star Plus that starts telecast of the new version of Indian epic Mahabharta which is costing Rs 80 lakh per episode. Being a Monday to Friday affair and scheduled to end in March 2014,it will totally cost ranging from Rs 90-100 crore.
In terms of cost per episode, the Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan on Sony is the costliest with Rs 2 crore being spent on it. Ad world is excited that two big shows are coming and through hosting Bigg Boss, the channel gets a 20% increase in viewership while the promotion of the epic drama of Star will also pull in audiences.
Within a month, Colors will launch 24, the Indian version of the American thriller. The rights are with Anil Kapoor who acted in the original and will play the lead in the Indian version of the thriller. The licensing fee and production cost would cost Rs 50 crores.
Bigg Boss 7′s 10-second slot is sold for Rs 2-2.5 lakh now and after TRAI’s 12 minute ad for a one hour show comes, it will rise 20 to 40 per cent. Vodafone is its title sponsor who is said to have paid Rs 12- 14 crore.
Fortune Oil is the title sponsor and powered by Ghadi detergent. Mahabharta charges Rs 1-1.5 lakhs per 10 sec and will go up as TRAI cap comes into effect.
