Mumbai, Sep 10 (): The Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express has raked in Rs 225.67 crore till the fifth Monday. The film has turned out to be one of the most successful films ever in Indian cinema.
Trade analyst and film critic tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress [Week 5] Fri 23 lacs, Sat 29 lacs, Sun 41 lacs, Mon 31 lacs. Grand total: Rs 225.67 cr net”.
Chennai Express was rock-steady over 5th weekend. The collections of the movie on 5th Friday were around 23 lakhs. It picked up a little on 5th Saturday raking in around 29 lakhs, maintained a stable business on 5th Sunday collecting around 41 lakhs. The film has collected 92 lakhs over 5th weekend and on 5th Monday the movie collected 31 lakhs at the box office.
Usually, the theatrical run of a film lasts until the fourth week and gives space for new releases. But, Rohit Shetty’s family entertainer continues to draw audiences. Even in its fifth week, the film is continuing its success run at the box office. The movie is expected to collect 1.50 cr nett over 5th week.
The pace of the film’s earnings at the box office has slowed down mainly because of new releases and a limited number of screens.
Till the fifth Monday, Chennai Express has raked in 225 cr nett at domestic box office and will finish with 226 cr nett lifetime total collection. This will be an ultimate target for big films to come i.e. “Krrish 3″ and “Dhoom 3″.
The collections of Chennai Express have proven to be a historical hit at box office and now it becomes the highest grosser ever in India and worldwide. The action-comedy film is also maintaining a good business in the overseas markets and has become the 3rd biggest grosser in overseas circuits.
Taran also tweeted the overseas collection of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, “#ChennaiExpress *total till Sunday* UK £ 2,140,294 [Rs 21.84 cr], USA-Canada $ 5,220,926 [Rs 33.51 cr], Australia A$ 798,880 [Rs 4.78 cr]”.
