CTET july 2013 exam pass percentage

New Delhi, Sep 4 (): Out of 7.76 lakh candidates who appeared for the CTET July 2013 Exam, only 77,364 candidates have been successful getting the highest pass percentage out of the four CTET’s held so far by the CBSE all over the country. Candidates with 60% and above marks are given eligibility certificates.

Pass percentage has been high this year when compared to last year which showed only 1% of the aspirants qualifying the exam in 2012. Though it was considered as a welcoming increase in pass percentage this year, the quality of teacher training has come under scanner, with 90% of aspiring school teachers showing poor performance by not qualifying the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2013, the results of which were declared on Sep 3.

Out of 2,86,537 candidates who appeared for paper -1, only 33,184 candidates were able to qualify (11.58%), while out of 5,90,083 candidates who appeared for Paper II, just 7.49% candidates got passing mark. Officials claimed that in both the papers women were in the top list than men.

CTET exams contained two papers with Paper I based on multiple choice questions for candidates who prefer teaching classes from I to VIII and paper 2 was conducted for candidates who prefer teaching classes VI to VIII. Candidates have to pass both paper I and II for getting selected as teachers to these classes.

CTET was introduced by the government to develop the quality of teachers in school after the endorsement of the Right to Education Act was brought into effect making CTET certification as mandatory for teachers in any government school. Though CTET is only an additional qualification, huge number of failures is a matter of concern which has to be looked seriously, said a principal of a teacher training college.

The standards in teacher training were also worsened due to escalation of private institutes, added the Principal. CTET examinations are held for appointing teachers for class I to VIII in Central government schools after the RTE act, 2009 came into effect.
