Mumbai, Aug 31 (): The Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Satyagraha with such a big cast is a massive film from all perspectives.
Released across 2600-2700 screens on August 30, the movie has done a superb collection at the Indian box office on its opening day.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran adarsh tweeted, “#Satyagraha grew steadfastly and robustly in evening/night shows. Collects Rs 11.21 cr on Friday. Prakash Jha’s biggest opener thus far”.
Thus, the movie has turned out to be the biggest opener in the career of filmmaker Prakash Jha, beating the opening day record of his Blockbuster movie Raajneeti.
Taran tweeted, “#Satyagraha opens to a strong word of mouth in UAE-GCC. Thu AED 430,000. Few screens yet to report. Bigger start than #Raajneeti”.
Prakash Jha’s last super hit movie Raajneeti that starred Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in lead roles, had collected Rs 10.50 crores nett at the domestic box office on its opening day. Satyagraha has smashed the director’s previous record by raking in Rs 11.21 crores nett at domestic box office on its first day.
The film had an above average occupancy on its opening day with the occupancy ranging between 70% and 80% at single screens and 50% at multiplexes in the morning and matinee shows on Friday. The movie saw a steady growth in the evening and night shows.
Satyagraha received positive response from critics. The sincere performances of the main characters in the film were appreciated by the critics. Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor, the political drama boasts of a big star cast including Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Amrita Rao.
Experts say the movie will surely pick on Saturday and Sunday, as the word of mouth publicity is strong and growing stronger.
“Satyagraha” had a solo release on 30 August, so the film is expected to score big both at domestic and overseas box offices this week. But, next week the movie will be facing competition with two big releases – “Zanjeer” and “Shuddh Desi Romance”.
