Mumbai, Aug 24 (): Bollywood’s crime thriller “Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobaara”(OUATIMD), has ended its first week on a disappointing note, raking in just Rs 53 crore. The big budget film has failed poorly at the box office. Including Thursday’s paid preview, the first-week total collection is around Rs 53 crore.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#OUATIMD collects Rs 53 cr + nett in Week 1, inclusive of Thursday [15 August] numbers”.
The Akshay Kumar starrer, ‘OUATIMD’ that released on August 15, Independence Day, opened with a positive note but negative reviews hampered its collections.
Trade analyst Amod Mehra said the budget of the film was Rs 95 crore, and as the movie is not doing well, it is going to be difficult for the makers to recover the money in its two weeks’ run. The film will struggle to cross 70 cr nett, he said.
Experts say OUATIMD did not live up to the massive expectations, in terms of content as well as box office numbers. In terms of business, the movie did not make much of an impact in its opening weekend and remained low-key on weekdays as well.
OUATIMD majorly failed due to a bad script and dull performances. Failing to charm the audience like its prequel edition, Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai, it was almost a dull make. Director Milan Luthria who has delivered many hits for Balaji films has now delivered a fairly unimpressive feat.
The makers of the film were excepting much on the gangster saga, but the film turned out to be a disappointment in terms of box office numbers.
The film also faced major competition from Shahrukh Khan starrer “Chennai Express”. In addition, the movie did not receive good reviews from critics. Bad word-of mouth too affected the collection of the movie.
